Blessings

The  year of the dragon is about to bid us goodbye a few days from now.  Being the dragon baby that I am, yes I was born on 1976, I hoped for the best when the dragon year entered.  True to its promise, it was indeed a year full of blessings for us.  Hubby's small business picked up its pace.  Projects kept coming in and there were very few problems in the operations of the business. Though I bid my job goodbye, I was given opportunities outside the office.  I had the privilege of assisting a friend in starting up a business venture.  I was able to help out in developing a website for that same business.There are offers to work from home that are still coming in up until now.  I declined most of them because I enjoyed being a full time mom again after almost six years.  I've seen how my kid enjoyed every day that I spent with him and I've come to realized what I had missed back when I was still working.   Apart from reviving my housewife status, I was also able to relieve my childhood memories thru a reunion for a cause with my elementary batchmates.  It was nice to give back and share some of the blessings that were being poured onto us.  The smiles from the kids were more than enough to wave off the tiredness that we felt for the preparation of the gifts and the foods.   More so, knowing that a lot of kids felt blessed that day is another reason to smile about.

One thing that 2012 has taught us is that we have to count our blessings instead of lingering on our problems.  Problems just come and go, and it is actually a reason for us to still smile.  Why? because it is only the living that is sorrounded with problems hence they are an indication that we are still alive.

2013 have come in and the Chinese year of the snake is about to start by the 10th of February but I am not lonely at all.  I am bidding the Dragon with a happy heart and welcoming the Snake is a very positive outlook.  Who wouldn't if you were given this kind of a blessing?

Yes, there's bun in the oven and we are praying that there will be no problem this time.  We have been trying to conceive for almost four years now so you can see the reason for that big smile.

Mommy Moments: Parenting Tips

When I gave birth nine years ago, I was really clueless on parenthood. I just know that I will eventually become so attach to the little one and that I will be depended on by this little being for the next couple of years. I was actually having mixed emotions because I know that a child is a happy addition to our family and because at last I can now fulfill the dreams of any sane woman, to become a mother. But, I also know that the child would come to the world without a manual and that it is something that cannot be disposed of if you happen to see any defects or if it malfunctions. It is also something that cannot be returned to the manufacturer for warranty or part replacement. You just have to take them on an "as-is-where-is" terms.

The good part is that once you become a parent, you will realize that you are capable of loving another person unconditionally. Yes, there are times that the kid appear to be so makulit that I tend to be pikon of all of his mischievousness. But, at the end of the day, when I tuck him to bed, I realize that I would not trade anything in this world for him or even for an additional kid.

I know that this is supposed to be a parenting tip but I guess any parent would agree that each day with our kids is a learning experience. And that each of us, will have to have a different style of parenting depending on the type of kid that we are dealing with. But I'd say that to new parents I will always tell them these; Seize your moments with your kids and live it to the fullest because life is really to short not to enjoy every single moment we have with them. Let us not be parents that are willing to work hard for the future of these kids but instead let us be with them on each of their tiny steps and until they leap to their own boundaries. After all, that is the essence of being a parent, to be able to guide a child through this labyrinth we call life.

To homeschool or not

I was watching a rerun of a local documentary show the other day and it really made me think about homeschooling. Yes, it was a re-run. I checked and found out that it wasd originally shown on national TV about five to six years ago. Yet, the message of the show still echoes to this day. It was pointing out the differences between the sexes inside the school premises. It pointed out that girls are working harder in schools as compared to boys. It even stated that girls are always outnumbering the girls in higher sections. It was alarming on my end, maybe because I have a young boy in school as well. I recalled how my boy was doing the past few years he had been in school. It made me realized that for the past few years those that are getting honors in their schools are mostly girls. An education specialist even stated on the show that men are born to have shorter attention span as compared to their counterpart. Boys are not good in symbols and this includes letters and numbers. But boys are always seen to excel in things where they do not only use their mind but their physical strength as well. Hmm, maybe the reason why most of our athletes are men. So, how did homeschooling came into the topic. You see, when you homeschool a child you work at the pace of that particular child. You do not subject a child to learn faster because others are learning that way. In homeschooling, parents as teachers, can work on what motivates a child and on what gets his attention. Yes, there are also set of curriculum for homeschooling but the good is that you can design your lessons to fit these curriculum and at the same time making your lessons enjoyable to your kid.

I am still way to far to homeschooling my kid. I mean, I would love to, but our schedules might not make it work for us. Perhaps , next year, we are going to give it a try.

Dress Up Games

Have you ever wondered how it feels to be in another person's shoes? Children often do their dress-up games and my kid is no different. There was one time that we went to Museong Pambata and he was very excited because he was able to try out different work wears. Some of them was the fireman costume complete with the hats and a firetruck in tow. He was begging for us to go to there one of these days because he said he wants to try out those lab coats for doctors.

Dressing up games are healthy games for kids. It does not only broadens up their creativity but it always makes them be aware that each person has their own responsibility in nation-building. With these in mind , the kids will definitely be creative thinkers in the future and perhaps better leaders. So whether it be a hospital nurse uniform or an engineering cap, just give in to your kids desire. After all, you cannot always contain them to wearing just scrubs for kids.


And I guess even mommies will find those fashion scrubs to be worth the buy.

Reinventing Yourself

I was channel surfing last night and I was able to catch some segments of Moments. It is Net 25 talk show that showcases moms of different sizes and styles. Last night, show host Gladys Reyes was interviewing 1973 Miss World 1st runner-up Evangeline Pascual and she was a brilliant speaker. Rarely, could you see someone talk like her. She speaks both with grace and essence. She is the epitome of a real beauty queen. She mentioned of a quote from one actress (which according to Google was Audrey Hepburn) which talks about how women can stay beautiful. I googled it up right away and I am writing the phrase in full below.

"For Attractive lips, speak words of kindness.
 For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.
 For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.
 For beautiful hair, let a child run their fingers through it once a day.
 For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone.
 People, more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed. Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you will find one at the end of each of your arms.
 As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself and the other for helping others."

She was also giving an advice to Moms not to be afraid in reinventing themselves. She said not to go within the conformity that the society is dictating over moms. She said that we have to love ourselves in order to have the love that we seek from others. She even mentioned that she has embraced the fact that being a mom is from the womb to the tomb. And because , she mentions about moms reinventing themselves once in awhile then I have made up my mind. I will go and get my haircut within this month and yes, I will be posing my new look on this site.

Isn´t it nice to once in a while reminisce on how it was a few years back? This was taken one fine summer day when my son was just one year old. He was having such a nice time with the water from the shower near the swimming pool. Looking back at this picture makes me realize how he have grown so fast.

Mommy Moments: School Days

School activities are always anticipated not just by kids but by parents as well. Our family is of no difference. Itś always been a family bonding day for us. Being a working mom, I always make it a point to be present whenever my kid engages in school activities. I know that it serves as a push for him to do better and it is also showing him that we appreciate all his efforts, even how small that could be.

Itś nice and a bit frightening to see my kid starting to have his own life outside of the house. I can see that he is starting to have his own set of friends in school and I know that this makes his school days more fun and enjoyable.
