A Reunion for a Cause

 Last year was a good year for us. We were given opportunities and was showered with so many small blessings. One of the best thing that happened last year is that both Hubby and me were able to reconnect with old friends. Hubby had a reunion with his high school friends and he was one of the organizers. He asked me to come with him on the day of their reunion. It was nice meeting people who were part of Hubby's teenage days. Hearing them tell stories about their high school life made me want to see my high school friends too. Not that we don't see each other often, it's just that I suddenly miss them.

On the other hand, I also got myself too busy since I spearheaded a little project of our batch from my elementary grade school. This is the reason why I was not able to blog plus my aching hand which is going to be another story. It is the 23rd year of graduation from elementary last year and my batchmates have been wanting to have a reunion. The problem is no one is actually taking charge, hence, they asked me to spearhead the reunion. I obliged but I have also asked them something in return. I told them I will organize the reunion provided that it's going to be for a cause. The idea of "Reunion for a Cause ng mga Batang Malanday 1989" was then born.

Oh yes , we have a vision for this project. We thought of giving gifts to each student of the school but later realized that because of fund restraints we can only accommodate a portion of the school's population. We managed to raise enough funds to more than 10% of the students, thanks to batchmates who were kind enough in giving not just money but time and effort as well. We went to Divisoria to buy the gifts for the 250 indigent children of our beloved school. We wrapped the gifts and we also cooked foods for the kids.

Seeing them smile is more than enough for us to realize how lucky we were then and how blessed we are right now. We hope that we can continue this as a yearly affair.

Cooking Up a Party

Yes, I was born during the time where acronyms seems to be a phenomenon. Back during the 70's (oh, well I believe it was until the 80's), people seem to look at acronyms as the easiest way to remember a name of an organization or even an entire phrase or paragraph. It was so "in" that even teachers were using it to teach kids how to memorize meanings of words or steps in a scientific process. It was because of this fame (or infame), that most of barkadahans during those times have names concocted using the first initials of the members of the group. Ours was different though, we call our group, the Fruit Salad. We thought of baptizing the group that name after thinking that each member is different but just like those fruits in the fruit salad, you tend to look for them when they are not present.

What excites me these days, is that in a few months time, we are going to have our annual get together. We always have one big get-together during Christmastime. As I have mentioned, we have become one big happy family . Now like all families we have our own reunions those times. It is something to look forward to as someone gets to be added in every now and then. A new wife, a new husband and yes a new baby, is always a happy addition. This year, I am entrusted to be the PR manager of sorts for the event. I am tasked to coordinate with the entire group which means I need to send email blasts and text blasts. But, it is something that I won't mind doing.

I am also on the lookout for games and activities for the entire day? Hmm, our own version of the famous Pinoy Henyo,perhaps? For the kids, I am going to prepare a cupcake tower and I am asking one of the ladies to bring in the chocolate fountain. For the male spouses, lots of food to eat (and booze, perhaps!). The girls, oh, I am sure they will be happy with all the stories and the foods and the gifts.

Mommy Moments: Time Out with Friends

Today at Mommy Moments, moms are taking their time off with their friends. These are my high school friends during our Class Reunion. We have been friends for seventeen years now.



Originally, Fruit Salad (yes, we have a name for our "barkada") was composed of nine crazy individuals. We have grown to be one big happy (read:noisy) family. I rarely have some time (alone!) with my friends. Since most of us have been married, we normally have our families in tow when we go out. Yes, our families have grown to love them as well. Our spouses have come to accept that they need to stay (and chat) with each other while we are having our "girls only session" in the corner of the place where we are at. The kids, well they pretty much like each other,they even think they are cousins. This is our "family picture" taken last Christmas.
My kid? Well, he also has his own time alone with his friends.
